Abbott Ireland Vascular Division – Clonmel

Our broad line of vascular devices–which includes vessel closure, endovascular and coronary technologies–are used to treat vessel diseases of the heart, carotid arteries and peripheral blood vessels. These vessel diseases can lead to heart attack, stroke, critical limb ischemia and other serious vascular conditions.

We are looking for a Lab Analyst to join the Vascular Division located in Clonmel and this tole will involve the following:

Primary Function:

Performs laboratory testing within a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment in support of one or more of the following areas; raw materials, in-process product, finished product, stability, and/or validation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uses scientific education and/or experiences to generate results in accordance with GMP/procedural requirements and scientific principles.

  • Interprets data output to determine conformance with product specifications.

  • Understands internal business processes to make appropriate prioritisation of their assigned work duties. Has experience and command of multiple laboratory techniques to perform them with minimal error.

  • Can train other laboratory personnel on any technique they currently have in their training matrix.

  • Understands GMP/procedural impact of any proposed changes to operating procedures.

  • Takes responsibility for completing assigned work tasks and goals and can independently prioritise work schedule in order to meet both objectives.

  • Has basic computer proficiency of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Demonstrates the proficiency to learn Abbott computer systems and computer systems associated with laboratory instrumentation. Demonstrates a high level of proficiency to work with computer applications.

  • Works under the general guidance of a supervisor but can effectively manage their own time to ensure timely completion of assigned duties.

  • Performs analytical test methods as written to support product/material release with minimal error. Proposes and implements changes to improve methodology.

  • Understands laboratory techniques and principles performed. Can independently troubleshoot and resolve analytical techniques and instrument issues.

  • Supports the training activities of other analysts in the laboratory.

  • Updates and revises procedures and laboratory documentation as required.

  • Is viewed by their peers as having integrity. Consistently meets goals/deadlines despite obstacles. Maintains a professional atmosphere in the face of conflict.

Education / Experience Required:

  • (Experience/Education) National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline. 2+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • (Technical/Business Knowledge (Job Skills)) has strong basic knowledge of general technical concepts and practices and a good general understanding of product or systems fundamentals in a laboratory environment and will perform this job in a quality system environment.

  • (Cognitive Skills) Performs primarily routine technical assignments using standard methods and sequences. Performs routine set-up, testing, repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of all area specific equipment, materials, systems, and/or product. Makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed under supervision.

  • (Planning/Organisation) Completes all tasks in line with defined laboratory schedules as directed by their supervisor.

  • (Decision Making/Impact) Solves basic to intermediate level problems of limited scope and complexity requiring basic interpretation of defined procedures and practices. Maintains confidentiality in handling sensitive information or documents.
