Job Description

This position is for a Graduate Evaluation Engineer within DELL EMC’s Drives & Storage Media Engineering (DSME) division, based in Cork, Ireland. The ideal candidate for this position is an individual who aspires to have a good balance of business and technical responsibilities in their role. The primary role entails evaluation & qualification of storage media products used in DELL EMC’s storage and appliance platform portfolio. The individual will be responsible for executing qualifications and ensuring that DELL EMC’s storage media quality and reliability expectations are met.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities .

  • Responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of the multiple drive and storage media qualifications

  • Delivering critical assessment of the qualification status with suppliers to provide a platform to drive change & improvement into the device under qualification

  • Executing functional and non-functional test suites with the purpose of uncovering defects present in disk drive firmware

  • Manage supplier and supplier engineering teams to support timely/successful qualification

  • Communicates to suppliers the needs and expectations of DELL EMC and provides feedback to the suppliers regarding their performance.

  • Work open issues with supplier engineering teams to resolution

  • Developing and maintaining suites of automated tests including Server Side scripts using Perl, CLIs & APIs

  • Maintaining existing and developing new test applications in C/C++ language

  • Develop working knowledge of DELL EMC's Storage Subsystems and how they integrate with host computer systems

  • Evaluation, introduction and management of new test equipment and systems

  • Test environment and lab management responsibilities

  • Become expert in Fibre Channel, SAS, SATA & ‘PCIe/ NVMe’ protocols

  • Support technical needs of internal customers

  • Interaction with other internal groups concerning technical matters, conveying ideas, and recommending possible solutions to problems.

  • Employ basic Six Sigma tools when examining or re-engineering processes and procedures.

  • Develops acceleration and analytical methods and processes to enhance and ensure the reliability and quality of new and existing products.

  • Analyzes failure reports and makes recommendations to improve existing processes.

  • Some travel to US and within Europe will be required

General Knowledge Skills – background knowledge of

  • UNIX and/or Windows Server administration

  • Various disk drive protocols (FC, SCSI, SAS, SATA, PCIe/ NVMe))

  • Applications and scripts using Python, C/C++ & Perl

  • Ability to work with minimal structure and possess a high level of creativity.

  • Ability to work independently, within teams and cross functionally.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritise projects, and meets deadlines under pressure.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with large number of competing constituents.

  • Detail oriented and results driven.

  • Ability to professionally present and deliver messages both internally to cross functional teams as well as externally,

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or equivalent
