VMware Tools Developer in Cork, Ireland

The GS Tools Team is looking for an individual with a strong development skillset that is passionate about improving the supportability of VMware products, as well as enabling Global Services to offer ground breaking support solutions. As part of the team you will be responsible for technical design, planning and implementation of automation systems and product analytics tools. Working with a global team and partnering with various business units within VMware’s engineering groups, you will drive in-product enhancements to support VMware customers with a focus on proactive support methodologies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Building GS Tools team awareness and global process standardization

  • Design and develop new software to aid in the support of a broad range of VMware products

  • Upgrade/Rewrite existing GSS Tools appropriate for automation as “Pluggable modules” for use by various diagnostic Platforms

  • Gather reliable data from various systems for subsequent data analysis and comparison of baselines

  • Perform trend analysis by defining methods to identify and prioritize product defects

  • Establish lifecycle process to govern the development, QA, testing, and support of new and existing GSS Tools

  • Design and implement CVS Repositories, Helpdesk, Bug Tracking, and other various systems for the GSS Tools team to continue to support and promote development of tools by TSEs

  • Plan infrastructure requirements, systems migrations and deployments

  • Implement automation, monitoring and control systems

  • Performs risk assessment and management

Requirements

  • Programming experience in Python preferred or at least one of: Perl,C, Bash

  • Expertise in at least one of the following SMEs: SysOps, Network, Infrastructure, or Fault, or VMware equivalent industry experience or certification

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Process oriented-driven

  • Able to multitask and prioritize tasks

  • Independent worker with strong collaborative skills

  • Able to think creatively to develop new ideas and innovations

  • Proactive and proven track record

  • Clearly articulates problems and proposes solutions

  • Flexible schedule when partnering with global teams (EST/PST)

Assets

  • Experience using the Django framework

  • Knowledge of internal VMware systems and/or systems API access (SOAP/REST)

  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git)

  • Flask, Celery & RabbitMQ

  • VMware SDK, PowerShell and development APIs

  • Experience supporting vCenter, ESX, vCenter Support Assistant, Log Insight and Analytics Products

  • Knowledge of Agile / SCRUM methodologies.
