Account Lead Senior Product Specialist – Ireland Nationwide – Shire

  • Work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to manage and complete appropriate projects within allocated units to implement commercial strategy

  • Educate Healthcare Professionals, as well as relevant funding & access bodies, about Shire products and disease areas and ensure appropriate referral of identified patients to treating centres and access to treatment

  • Pro-actively promote products assigned to Shire Genetic Diseases Franchise as defined by the company to Healthcare Professionals


  • Achieve/exceed agreed sales targets sales in line with territory and national targets Prepare and maintain accurate territory business plans and local account plans to

  • meet all objectives within allocated budget.

  • Develop long term business relationships with the key stakeholders to maximize business opportunities across the local healthcare market

  • Pro-actively identify and work with KOLs in line with the promotional strategy to utilize at local, national and international meetings

  • Ensure referral of patients to appropriate specialist treatment centres and access to treatment

  • Increase potential for successful use of Shire Genetic Diseases products

  • Demonstrate an in depth understanding of the Irish healthcare system and the potential impact on business that opportunities and threats may present, leveraging internal resources fully to maximize the opportunities and minimize the threats.

  • Demonstrate a full understanding of the Shire products, markets and commercial strategies as well as the CSF’s and the marketing plan. Demonstrate a full awareness of key competitors and their strategies and how Shire products successfully compete.

  • Anticipate potential obstacles to overcome / minimize barriers to the referral of patients or prescribing of promoted products.

  • Measure and monitor the progress against territory objectives, including sales, return on investment spent (in terms of money and resources), re-aligning as agreed with manager at business reviews.

  • Effectively utilize the identified IT based systems including CRM to pro-actively plan and monitor business activities and record factual accurate customer notes with completion according to agreed timescales and quality levels

  • Ensure personal conduct is consistent with the Shire Leadership Behaviours.

  • Support manager in initiating and optimizing business opportunities

  • Adhere to and comply with Shire’s local and global guidelines and practices as well as the IPHA Code of Practice and SI541 of 2007

  • Carry out other related tasks and projects as requested by manager.

Education & Min Experience Required:

  • Minimum 3-5 years sales experience.

  • Bioscience degree or similar qualification.

  • Proven track record. Able to demonstrate that annual sales targets have been met or exceeded. Able to demonstrate successful completion of projects which drive business.

  • Experience of working with rare diseases and in niche markets is preferred but not essential. Experience in Metabolic Disorders, Haematology, Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Paediatrics would be useful.

  • Experience of bringing new products to market would be an advantage

  • Experience of market access would be an advantage

  • Highly motivated, positive, enthusiastic and goal orientated.

  • Able to communicate scientific and medical information to healthcare professionals at all levels, including KOLs, in a confident and succinct manner.

  • Able to develop strong professional relationships at all levels of interaction with medical and related staff and able to develop the potential of new key opinion leaders

  • Ability to work flexibly in a small and focused team.

  • Ability to prioritise and plan workload

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Strong computer skills especially word and excel

  • Achieve agreed sales and volume targets for designated products

  • Prioritises work objectives and journey plans to achieve goals agreed with the manager

  • Decides which health professionals to visit in accordance with set objectives In conjunction with manager decides which local scientific meetings should be supported

Organises local educational meetings for relevant specialists and is responsible for all venue, speaker and material support required for the achievement of high quality meetings in support of business goals and in compliance with Irish Legislation SI 541

  • Willing and able to travel extensively Ireland (ROI) with some overnight stays. Some international travel may be required.

  • Driver’s licence mandatory.
