JOB DESCRIPTION:

Abbott Nutrition Division – Sligo

Abbott Nutrition develops and markets a wide range of nutritional products and devices to support the growth, health and wellness of people of all ages.

Abbott Nutrition is a leader in providing enteral feeding devices, including enteral feeding pumps, pump sets, enteral feeding tubes and kits. Enteral feeding (also known as “tube feeding”) is a means of providing nutrition to patients who cannot obtain nutrition by swallowing. The nutrition or feed contains all the necessary calories and vitamins that the patient will need.

We are looking for EHS Manager to join our team.

Primary Function / Goals / Objectives

  • To ensure that the highest standards of Environmental Health and Safety and Energy are maintained throughout the plant in an ever-changing business environmental.

  • To foster a culture of continuous improvement while also ensuring that ANSC complies with all statutory Employment and Safety legislation, ANSC policies, Abbott Ireland H.R. and EHS&E Policies.

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant EHS&E legislation and develop systems and procedures that optimises ANSC's safety, health and environmental performance

Major Responsibilities

Reporting to the site Engineering & EHS Manager, your key responsibilities include the following:

  • Create/Maintain an effective EHS&E&E management system.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental legislation, Abbott Division Procedures and Standards by ensuring all required EHS&E documentation is up to date and readily available.

  • Maintenance of ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 systems.

  • Educate and engage employees in efforts to optimise Abbott Ireland Ballytivnan's EHS&E&E performance.

  • Ensure EHS&E&E audits are conducted and all issues effectively closed out.

  • Promote continuous improvement in all environmental and safety matters.

  • Ensure implementation of the waste management strategy, continually striving to reduce Abbott Ireland Ballytivnan's impact on the environment.

  • Ensure all EHS&E&E incidents are investigated to establish causation and resolution.

  • Assist in workstation assessment program.

  • Promote, implement and participate in safety committees

  • Co-ordinate inspections by regulatory bodies as required.

  • Ensure permit completion in compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Assist in the co-ordination of contractors where there is an EHS&E impact, and in accordance with local legislation.

  • Deliver EHS&E Training Courses.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant EHS&E legislation.

  • Ensure environmental, health & safety (EHS&E) global management standards are met and all EHS&E procedures are adhered to.

  • Champion EHS&E awareness across the site and promote a culture of EHS&E continuous improvement.

  • Active participation and support the introduction of Division/Corporate EHS&E programs & initiatives so to reflect industry best practice

  • Act as Comply with all company EHS&E policies and procedures and demonstrate EHS&E best practices in all work activities

  • Play a leading role in investigations and remedial actions associated with all EHS&E related accidents/incidents

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory duties are associated with this position.

Additionally there is a requirement to exercise responsibility

  • Close contact with Abbott personnel at all levels, both within the plant and at Division level.

  • Regular meetings with the Engineering & EHS Manager.

  • A wide range of confidential data is handled, e.g. regulatory submissions, audit reports, market information.

EHS&E Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Environmental Health & Safety standards are met and all EHS&E regulations and procedures are adhered to. Foster an awareness of Environmental Health & Safety in the plant and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for EHS&E performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott’s EHS&E Program

  • Ensure employees report any work related injuries or illness to employee health and are promptly investigated

  • Active participation and support of Abbott’s EHS&E programs

  • Attend EHS&E training assigned and ensure that employees who report to you attend required training

  • Investigate all employee related H&S incidents, spills, releases to the environment and near misses, provide follow-up of corrective actions and ensure close out

  • Conduct staff meetings in which EHS&E is part of the agenda at least once per month.

Education Required:

  • Third level qualification in an Environmental Science/ Occupational, safety and health or related discipline is a necessary requirement for this position

Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 3 years EHS&E work experience

  • Excellent working knowledge of EHS&E related legislation and industry best practices

  • Previous experience of working in a multinational and/or regulated manufacturing organisation is desirable

  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills.

  • Enthusiastic and energetic with the ability to integrate quickly into a team environment

  • Self -starter with proven ability to work on own initiative.

  • Demonstrate flexible and innovative approach to work

Accountability / Scope

This position reports to the Engineering & EHS Manager and is required to demonstrate Leadership and Management competencies by:

  • Providing direction to the plant on EHS&E activities

  • Setting vision and strategy for the Team and the Plant

  • Building the organisation and inspiring the people

  • Knowing the Business and driving for results
