The Hertz Corporation Senior Financial Accountant - Indirect Tax Team in Swords, Ireland

Our European Service Centre office based in Swords Dublin employs approximately 900 people with over 29 different nationalities and we are currently looking for a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant to join our Indirect Tax Team.

What is this role all about?

Reporting to the Indirect Tax Director and based in the Shared Service Centre in Swords, Co. Dublin, as Senior Indirect Tax Accountant you will lead a team of nine direct reports and be primarily responsible for overseeing all Indirect Tax filing, to include:

  • Indirect Tax compliance across nine EU jurisdictions (Italy, Germany, France, Spain, United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands)

  • Review of VAT return preparation processes filings and other indirect tax filings (Intrastat, ESL, etc.)

  • Optimise VAT accounting processes

  • Support Indirect Tax Director on new business initiatives, contract reviews, compliance processes, general technical questions, projects, etc.

  • Work with the general accounting teams and in-country Tax Managers to implement and improve end-to-end indirect tax process and internal procedures to mitigate risks

  • Monitoring internal controls and SOX requirements

  • Monthly review/approval of VAT account reconciliations as per Hertz accounting policy

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and ensure timely filing of all Indirect Tax returns, including payment of taxes

  • Leading and managing a multi-cultural and motivated compliance team

  • Ensure proper internal controls and undertake VAT health-checks in the EU corporate countries

  • Review the major accounting processes for VAT compliance and identify and implement opportunities to simplify procedures

  • In conjunction with the country tax managers/tax advisers monitor and advise on the impact of VAT law changes to Hertz network, including identification of potential indirect tax risks and/or opportunities for savings

  • Support the Indirect Tax Director and Country Finance Business Partners/Tax Managers to handle enquiries/issues

  • Contribute to best practices and develop harmonized processes within the Indirect Tax team

Essential Requirements:

What do we need from you?

  • Good working knowledge of English

  • Knowledge of another EU language is highly desired, but not essential

  • Proven team management skills

  • Degree in Economics/Finance or equivalent desirable

  • Fully or part-qualified in a professional body (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA,) desirable

  • +3 years’ accounting experience in industry, shared service centre or audit/tax firm
