Position Summary

The Global Supply Chain Planning Manager plays the lead role in ensuring that product demand forecasts are created, reviewed, published and refined when appropriate. The manager supports planning of drug substance, drug product and finished product production schedules for the internal and external manufacturing sites to insure product needs of Commercial and Clinical Operations are met. Maintains oversight of drug substance, drug product and finished product inventories throughout the entire value chain and recommends changes to production schedules to insure inventories are controlled and well balanced around the globe, insuring products are available at the right time and right location. Interacts and communicates with CMO, commercial, finance, logistics, and other departments as appropriate to obtain current, accurate and relevant information. The position plays a leadership role in the S&OP process and drives alignment with cross-functional partners such as sales, distribution, finance, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing in order to achieve a world class process.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Owns and governs the planning and execution of operational work plans and forecasts with manufacturing, filling and packaging Contract Manufacturers (CMO)

  • Co-ordinates and optimises the inventories for drug substance (DS), drug product (DP) and finished product (FP) in the relevant suppliers, countries and distribution centers, including New Product Introduction

  • Owns and delivers the Global Sales & Operational Planning process

  • Controls and owns global production schedules for Drug Substance, Drug Product and Finished Products for all manufacturing sites to ensure no stock outs in any markets

  • Drive improved on time delivery to patients while optimizing working capital through balancing demand, supply and inventory requirements

  • Develop a deep understanding of sales forecasting and supply chain operations, creating direct value and continuous improvement for the Alexion Corporation

  • Works closely with CMO Business Management function to maintain current production and distribution schedules, as well as strategic developments, to insure availability of products to the global supply chain

  • Drive demand management improvements and increase forecast accuracy to support fill and pack CMO contraints and schedule adherence

  • Develop and distribute to the Manufacturing Sites a demand plan that consolidates the regional forecasts to meet inventory and service level targets

  • Coordinates all functional aspects of Supply Planning and provides alternate solutions, in case of conflicting interests and presents these to the management team

  • Ensures all Supply Planning Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are being adhered too and in compliance to cGMP requirements

  • Support the design and implementation of Supply planning metrics

  • Proposes and agrees on safety stock policies and manages inventories to meet these expectations

  • Ensures data accuracy in all aspects of planning, as well as in the global planning ERP system

  • Lead and participate in short term initiatives and projects to support corporate goals

Desired Skills and Experience

Third Level Degree qualification in a relevant discipline 6 years+ in pharmaceutical supply planning or associated experience

3 years + people management experience

In depth knowledge of tactical planning processes and distribution planning principles Advanced level MS Excel, MS Access; basic level other MS applications APICS accreditation a plus

Formal training/education in supply and demand management Strong SAP and Data Analysis skills are essential

Should possess strong communication and leadership skills, be goal-oriented, and have a demonstrated ability to self-manage and produce results

Project Management Skills and the ability to drive projects to completion
