IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Head of Electrical and Instrumentation to join our rapidly growing team, to be based at our newest EMEA office in Dublin, Ireland.
The Head of Electrical and Instrumentation manages the utilisation, growth and development of professionals, comprised of Instrumentation Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Designers in Ireland.
Ensure consistent, high quality deliverables via cold reviews.
Support business development with technical support, proposal generation and work hour estimates.
Possess sufficient technical proficiency in the various facets of I&E design to understand project requirements and apply the appropriate resources and execution approach for a successful project.
Supports strategic company initiatives.
Acts as a SME for specified I&E areas to support IPS’ general I&E engineering development.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates with Project Managers and Discipline Directors to determine scope, cost, complexity and planning and scheduling requirements of projects.
Assigns appropriate personnel to provide cost-effective engineering and technical support.
Defines an appropriate cost-effective workflow process and level of design detail to achieve project goals.
Estimates work hours needed to generate project deliverables and support the design team.
Ensures the quality, accuracy, consistency, timeliness and completeness of overall work to I&C, E engineering principles; compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes and ordinances; adherence to project schedules; and provides adequate training, technical and administrative guidance and instruction to personnel within the discipline.
Develops a I&C, E strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving technical/regulatory activities that are required to achieve long range annual goals and objectives.
Assists in ongoing strategic planning for the EMEA organisation.
Performs various personnel functions that involve hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations and employee development.
Plans and schedules work for the discipline to ensure the proper and effective distribution of assignments and manpower as well as space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.
Liaison for inter-office labor, work sharing and outsourcing to consultants.
Evaluates and initiates the necessary training of the I&C, E discipline to insure pertinent technical competence, acceptable social/communication skills and personal development of leadership.
Determines labor, resource and financial needs of the discipline.
Develops discipline policies, technical standards and procedures. Assists in the development and coordination of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures and standards.
Regularly reviews productivity/quality reports to ensure top performance.
Participates in business development by seeking out new projects with existing or new clients.
Contributes to the preparation and delivery of sales presentations and proposals.
Liaises with Senior Director’s to support the technical compliance and development of IPS’ I&C, E services
Delivers projects and consultancy work as required.
Develops the preliminary and final stage I&C, E design deliverables including contributing to P&IDs (AutoCAD, Smart P&IDs), Instrument List, Instrument Specifications and Instrument Data Sheets.
Assists with design development for DCS, PLC and SCADA based process control systems for IPS clients and projects.
Supports 3-D model development indicating location of all instruments.
Evaluates and selects instrument, control valve and analyser solutions. Reviews vendor documentation for compliance to project specifications.
Supports field activities, including on-site surveys and equipment walk downs as required.
Actively collaborates with the Process Design and Project Teams to support execution of successful project studies.
Develops the design of process control and automation systems in compliance with cGMP, GAMP, related industry standards and customer requirements.
Collaborates with client counterpart to develop control systems concepts, architectures and control platforms as applied to the client project.
Identifies, qualifies and collaborates with third party system integrators as necessary to support project and company business objectives.
Prepares or reviews construction budgets based on experience and scope of project.
Assists process engineering development of Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS).
Works with end users and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) to coordinate application of automation products.
Performs automation related job functions as assigned, including, I/O lists, Instrumentation lists and the specification of instrumentation and control element.
Supports risk assessments, including SIL, LOPA and HAZOP.
Travels to other IPS office locations and client sites to support projects and business objectives.
Supports IQ/OQ development and participates in systems analysis, validation and verification.
Special projects as assigned.
Extensive experience in the design of Pharmaceutical and BioPharmaceutical facilities for the cGMP production of biological and pharmaceutical drugs.
A BEng (Hons) in Instrumentation and Control Engineering or equivalent.
Progressive ability, capacity and aptitude in administration to plan, organise, supervise and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
Analytical thinking, structured problem solving skills, superior communication skills, team building and strong work ethic.
Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a fluid, developing team to target business growth and high quality projects.
Considerable experience with industrial process control system including DCS, PLC and SCADA based systems.
Significant experience with Pharmaceutical process instrumentation.
Knowledge of instrumentation and controls components such as transmitters (temperature, pressure, pH, conductivity, level, load cells, flow), control valves, regulators, etc.
Expertise in how engineering design programs are applied to computer aided drafting.
Experience preparing preliminary and final design documents including P&IDs (AutoCAD), instrument schedules, specifications and calculations.
Experienced with ISA standards and the interpretation of P&ID drawings.
Experience with the development of cGMP and GAMP automation lifecycle documents.
Excellent interpersonal skills and presence to deal effectively with senior-level contacts.
