The MS Operations Governance, Risk Management and Compliance Team, within Microsoft Business Operations, provides oversight, standards and direction to the broad Operations organization in driving risk management and compliance, awareness and a risk-conscious climate in a manner consistent with the policies and objectives of Microsoft.
Operations is uniquely positioned within the company to lead our operational risk and compliance and how it enables are business opportunities and move to modern; this role will be uniquely positioned to lead risk management and compliance aspects of this critical direction.
An Operations Risk Manager will lead and collaborate across the operations and enterprise to ensure methodology, execution of assessment, gaps, solutions, testing and mitigation plans are in alignment with the Operations GRC program. In this specific position, we are looking for someone to mature our control program across many risk domain areas (risk, data management, privacy and BCM). We will be emphasizing hiring someone with strong background in GRC framework, centralized control program/monitoring oversight and ability to lead the GRC program at a site level (cross organizations and functional disciplines). We will also be looking for someone who enjoys working as a team, enabling vision within their own team and across silos, and enjoys taking accountability to lead through challenges and new opportunities!
Risk Assessment and Management: Proactively identifies, prioritizes, compares, connects, and interprets operational risks. Manages risks using risk management tools, processes, and methods.
Uses his or her multi-business function, analytics abilities, support/service, and product and operational risk perspective to assimilate information from multiple sources, and identify key drivers, variables, trends, and business scenarios to inform business decisions.
Works across teams to challenge and support assumptions, present actionable recommendations for how to manage the business through analysis and engage/lead in execution of mitigation strategies
Manages the schedule to incorporate internal and cross-team dependencies, assign appropriate resources, create logical work breakdown structures, identify critical path elements, process change requests, and measure progress against the plan.
Establishes program governance to facilitate, track, log, and implement decisions.
Procures and manages resources appropriately, provides accurate operational risk projections, and promptly identifies and communicates variance.
Risk Information and Reporting: Efficiently obtains and presents relevant, accurate data from existing and emerging data sources. Develops tools, frameworks, and processes to enable partners to prioritize risks and drive decisions that protect or create shareholder value.
Prioritizes (and deprioritizes) risk assessment information appropriately, to articulate and provide insight into business group risk themes or areas.
Plans for long-term reporting and information needs related to operational risk.
Is responsible for risk planning models, setting controls and metrics, and defining the requirements and architecture for business management systems.
Interprets relevant standards and regulatory requirements in areas of operational risk, and recommends controls or policy requirements for multiple business functions, support areas/services or products.
Agent of Change: Collaborates to identify opportunities and influences others to move forward with speed and agility toward meeting business objectives.
Uses a deep knowledge of both the business and its operational risks, to define a strategy to initiate change and operationalize action.

This leader will be expected to actively participate in regular business reviews, and to inform the broader leadership community on business risks as the team develops strategies and execution approach.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
Areas of focus for hiring: Business Continuity Management, Control Oversight (assessment, design and monitoring) related to revenue processing and/or Privacy
Proven track record in providing future state views of compliance (compliance by design) and execution to those views.
Proven ability for risk and control oversight and optimization:
Creating standards and tolerances related to risk mitigation/acceptance, quality assurance and monitoring programs
Identifying areas where optimizing tactics and monitoring activities can address more than one risk.
Defining interim control optimization options including consideration of delaying the action that presents the risk.
Estimating the cost associated with monitoring activities and determine if the cost is appropriate given the prioritization of the risk and the level of the risk optimization achieved.
Development of key risk indicators, the design of management reports or dashboards to inform appropriate personnel about risk indicator changes.
Understands business objectives and plans accordingly by proactively communicating and addressing trade-offs and implementing metrics to drive risk reduction, ROI and monitoring key risk indicators, including demonstrated ability to use analytics to inform decision making
Proven ability to generate support from peers across the organization; provide strong and effective advocacy and achieve results through influence where no direct authority exists. Removes barriers by working with others around a shared need or customer benefit.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
A minimum of 8+ years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance and/or Business Operations.
MBA is a plus
